Float Rebuild
posted 04/30/2019
As mentioned in the moorage renewal letter this year, we are about to begin a complete rebuild of our float system in the marina starting this September.
We will be replacing all of our main floats, finger floats, pilings, ramps, electrical system and water distribution system.
All of the main floats will be widened from 5’ to at least 6’6” and 8’ in some locations. Finger floats will be either concrete of steel “torque tube” depending on the length, all pilings will be concrete (no more creosote wood) and every slip will have it’s own metered 30 amp or 50 amp electrical plug in.
All slips will be widened to accommodate todays wider vessels, and the channels between the floats will be widened to the industry standard as well.
The project will be done in phases over the next 3 years with the work being done from October through March to avoid disruptions during the peak boating season. Phase One will begin this fall with the replacement of H dock, G dock, and the first half of F dock starting at the South ramp.
The rebuild will require some vessels to be moved to temporary slips in the marina, or hauled out of the water during construction and we have already contacted the berth holders that will be affected this year.
All current annual moorage customers in the marina will be guaranteed a slip in the rebuilt marina. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee monthly moorage customers a slip past the end of August this year. If there is any monthly moorage available, it will be on a first come/first served basis.
This is a very large, very complicated, and very expensive project. Every effort will be made to minimize the disruption to our clients, but please bear with us if there are some unforeseen issues or problems. Once completed Westport will have the most “state of the art” float system in the area. That, along with our extremely sheltered location, close access to the Gulf and San Juan islands, and excellent upland facilities will continue to make Westport the best location for mooring your vessel on the entire Island.
