Float replacement project completed!
posted 04/14/2022
After several years of planning and 4 years of construction, our entire float system has been replaced with the most modern and environmentally friendly products available. All concrete main floats are wider and more stable, finger floats are galvanized steel “torque tube” design with composite decking, and all creosote wood pilings have been replaced with concrete pilings. The entire electrical system has been replaced and upgraded, every slip has it’s own metered 30 or 50 amp shore power connection, and our fresh water supply system has been completely replaced with modern components including anti-syphon valves to prevent salt water contamination, and marina supplied water hoses. The ramps to the floats have been replaced with wider models and we have added extensive LED lighting on the floats and ramps.
All slips are now wider to accommodate modern vessels, and all channels have been widened to allow more turning space between docks.
Many thanks to our major contactors – International Marine Flotation Systems, Heavy Metal Marine, and Edwards Electric.
This project could not have been completed without the tireless work of the entire Westport staff. Everything from demolition of the old floats, towing of components and vessels, connection of new floats & fingers, installation of the water system, co-ordination of contractors, contacting vessel owners and arranging temporary slips, arranging haulouts for vessel owners, allocating new slips to existing clients, and sales of slips to new clients was handled in a professional manner by marina staff. As General manager I am extremely proud of all my employees.
A huge thank-you as well to our marina moorage clients for their patience and understanding during the construction. Many clients were asked to move their vessels several times to different slips, haul their boats out for the winter, and put up with the general mess of construction, and they did so in a cheerful, co-operative manner.
Along with our sheltered location, marina amenities, and easy access to the Gulf & San Juan islands, Westport Marina now has the most modern float system in the entire lower island area.
